Jhooth Jugaad Aur Ek Chandni Raat

Jhooth Jugaad Aur Ek Chandni Raat

Rakesh Verma ke ghar mein shaadi ka season aate hi aisa lagta tha jaise pressure cooker ki seeti andar hi andar aur tez ho rahi ho. Subah ki chai ke saath newspaper khulta, aur newspaper se pehle rishtedaaron ke messages. Koi bolta, “Arre Verma ji, Aditya ka kya scene hai?” Koi aur seedha pooch leta, “Beta settle kab ho raha hai?” Aur Rakesh Verma, jo Government office mein clerk the aur apni life ko ek disciplined file ki tarah chalana pasand karte the, har baar ek hi line bolte—“Ho raha hai, bas thoda time aur.”

Aditya, unka 27 saal ka beta, ghar mein aise rehta tha jaise koi temporary resident ho. Tall, sharp, MBA degree wala, aur face par hamesha thodi si tension. Bahar se sabko bolta tha ki “tech company mein kaam hai, WFH chal raha hai, projects tight hain.” Ghar wale bhi uski line repeat kar dete, kyunki Delhi-NCR mein half truth bhi kabhi-kabhi full truth jaisa hi sunai deta hai, bas bolne wale ka confidence strong hona chahiye. Sach ye tha ki Aditya ki job chhoot chuki thi, aur jo freelance ya underpaid work milta, woh uske father ki expectations ke saamne bahut chhota lagta.

Sunita Verma ko sab kuch pehle pata chal jaata tha. Woh kitchen mein paranthe sekte hue bhi samajh jaati thi ki kaun kis baat se bacha raha hai. Rakesh ka “log kya kahenge” wala tone, Aditya ki aankhon ki thakaan, aur phone pe rishtedaaron ki over-sweet voice—Sunita in sab ko bina kisi drama ke read kar leti thi. Par woh direct confrontation mein believe nahi karti thi. Uska style tha: pehle environment normal rakho, phir dheere se sach ko table par lao.

Us din subah Rakesh ne newspaper fold karke table par patak diya. “Sunita, suna? Chacha Brij Mohan ka phone aaya tha. Woh log Sunday ko aa rahe hain. Aur saath mein woh Sharma family bhi. Jinhone pichhli baar Aditya ko ‘average’ bola tha na, unko bhi invite kiya gaya hai.”

Aditya ne chai ka sip liya aur almost choke kar gaya. “Kyun bula liya unko?”

“Taaki unko dikhe ki average ka matlab kya hota hai,” Rakesh ne chest thoda aur out karke kaha. “Beta, ab time aa gaya hai. Ab image banana padega. Shaadi ka matter hai. Family ki izzat ka matter hai.”

Aditya ne bas “hmm” kiya, par uska mann andar se kaanp raha tha. Usko pata tha ki image banana ka matlab sirf smile karna nahi hota. Matlab hota hai fake calls, staged car, office ke bhari-bharkam references, aur aise answers jo question se pehle ready hone chahiye. Aur in sab ke beech sabse dangerous cheez hoti hai ek chhota sa jhooth, jo agle jhooth ko janam deta hai.

Rakesh ne apna plan announce kiya, jaise koi senior officer file sanction kar raha ho. “Aditya, Sunday ko tum proper groom ki tarah behave karoge. Neat shirt, watch, and please, no nervous face. Main Brij Mohan ko bhi bol dunga ki woh bas background sambhale. Aur ek aur baat—engagement ka jo angle hai, woh hum thoda… developed version mein rakhenge.”

Sunita ne plate rakhte hue bas itna poocha, “Developed version matlab?”

Rakesh ne thoda sa throat clear kiya. “Matlab, haan… ek ladki ka mention hoga. Aisa lagega ki Aditya already serious hai. Demand mein hai. Stable hai.”

Aditya ne maa ki taraf dekha. Sunita ne uski aankhon mein jo panic dekha, usko samajh liya. Par usne bas ek lambi saans li aur kaha, “Beta, jo bhi karna, sambhal ke. Jhooth ka weight hota hai.”

Aditya ne socha, maa ko pata hai. Maa ko sab pata hai.

Sunday se pehle hi Chacha Brij Mohan ka social engine full speed mein aa gaya. Retired LIC agent the, par family gossip mein unka commission sabse zyada tha. Woh aaye aur drawing room mein baithte hi bole, “Bhai, maine sabko bata diya hai ki Verma ji ka beta international level ka aadmi hai. Ab koi over-smart question nahi aana chahiye.”

Rakesh ne fake smile ke saath chai di. “Brij Mohan ji, bas aap apni usual volume kam rakhiye.”

“Arre volume hi toh meri pehchaan hai,” Chacha hans pade. “Aur waise bhi, shaadi mein thoda show-off hona chahiye. Log dekhte hain.”

Aditya ko yeh line sunke aur ghabrahat hui. Log dekhte hain. Yahi toh problem thi. Woh khud bhi dekh raha tha ki uski zindagi ka ek hissa ab stage show ban chuka hai.

Neha ka entry usi din hua. Woh Aditya ki ex-colleague thi, event planning aur marketing ka combination, aur sarcasm uski default language thi. Rakesh ne usko “family friend” ke naam pe involve kiya tha, kyunki Neha smart thi aur panic mein bhi improvise kar sakti thi. Usne gate se andar aate hi Aditya ko dekha aur halki si eyebrow raise ki.

“Wow,” usne dheere se bola, “toh yeh hai fake engagement ka corporate edition?”

Aditya ne siski jaisi saans li. “Please mat shuru ho.”

“Main toh help kar rahi hoon,” Neha ne shrug kiya. “Lekin honestly, tum logon ne lie ko event theme bana diya hai.”

Plan simple tha—yaani paper par simple. Neha ko aise present karna tha jaise woh Aditya ki fiancée ho, ya kam se kam koi serious prospect. Rakesh ne office call ka scene set kiya, ek purani sedan ko “new car” bolne ki training di, aur Aditya ko salary, promotion, future plans aur Bangalore transfer tak ke answers ratwaye gaye. Sunita ne kitchen se sample snacks ka arrangement kiya, jaise function nahi, war room meeting ho.

Aur phir function ka din aa gaya.

Ghar mein rangoli, lights, mithai, aur relative energy ka dangerous combo tha. Chacha Brij Mohan har guest ke kaan mein Aditya ka intro aise daal rahe the jaise kisi stock ka hot tip ho. “Bhai, ladka smart hai. Tech company mein hai. Package theek-thaak hai. Aur engagement bhi almost done hai.” Woh “almost” ko itne confidence se bolte ki saamne wala usse already finalized maan leta.

Pehla crack tab aaya jab Sharma aunty ne Aditya se pooch liya, “Beta, kis company mein ho?”
