Sab Theek Hai Papa

Sab Theek Hai Papa

Meera ka life ek aise loop pe chal raha tha jahan har din same lagta tha, bas stress ka level alag hota tha. Subah Bengaluru ki traffic, office mein standup call, phir back-to-back sync-ups, aur raat ko Delhi mein papa ke saath video call. Har call ka script almost fixed tha. Papa puchte, “Khana khaya?” “Haan.” “Office theek chal raha?” “Haan papa, sab stable hai.” Aur phir woh apna kaam khatam samajh ke halki si smile de deti, jaise us smile ke peeche ki thakaan kisi ko dikh hi nahi sakti.

Sach ye tha ki office stable bilkul nahi tha. Kabhi client ka escalation, kabhi product ka issue, kabhi Nikhil ka “guys, we need to move like a family” bolke deadline aur tight kar dena. Funding ki whispers alag chal rahi thi, aur salary date ke around sabki aankhon mein ek silent panic rehta tha. Meera outwardly calm thi, neatly tied hair, crisp shirt, polite replies.

Papa Rajesh Delhi mein rehte the. Retired government employee, disciplined, quiet, aur itne observant ki unki silence bhi line-by-line read ho jaati thi. Woh call pe zyada bolte nahi the. Bas sunte rehte, kabhi “hmm” karte, kabhi “acha” bolte, aur end mein wahi same question: “Sab theek?” Meera ke liye woh question reassurance jaisa kam, test jaisa zyada lagne laga tha. Aur har baar woh test pass karne ke liye same answer deti: “Haan papa, sab theek hai.”

Woh Meera ke saath Bengaluru mein flat-share type arrangement mein rehti thi, kabhi friend, kabhi unpaid therapist, kabhi office ke baad ka venting zone. Asha ka style blunt tha. Woh chai banate hue seedha bol deti, “Tu ‘sab theek hai’ bolke apni life ka PR kar rahi hai, Meera.” Meera us time weak smile de deti, “Yaar, papa ko tension nahi deni.”

Meera hans deti thi, lekin uske hansne ke baad bhi chest mein wahi heaviness bani rehti. Woh genuinely believe karti thi ki sach bolna matlab failure admit karna. Papa ne usko padhaya tha, akela manage karna sikhaya tha, aur Meera ko lagta tha ki agar woh office ki messy reality bata degi toh papa ka trust hil jaayega. Woh independent dikhna chahti thi. Actually, zyada sahi bolen toh, woh independent dikhne ka pressure itna feel karti thi ki kabhi-kabhi saans bhi performance lagti thi.

Us din office mein scene aur zyada messy tha. Morning standup mein Nikhil ne usual startup tone mein bola, “Team, we’re in a very exciting phase. Need to ship fast, stay agile, and own the outcome.” “Exciting phase” ka code usually hota tha: “Please don’t ask about work-life balance.” Phir client ka escalation aa gaya. Product mein ek bug nikla, support inbox explode ho gaya, aur Nikhil ka tone suddenly sweet se sharp ho gaya. “Meera, we need a cleaner response. This is not aligned with brand voice.”

Meera ne keyboard pe fingers tight kar liye. “Not aligned with brand voice” ka matlab tha: “Please do it again, but with more suffering.” Asha ne side se dekha aur low voice mein bola, “Bro, aaj toh full circus hai.” Meera bas nod kiya. Uska mind already overdrive pe tha, aur tabhi phone vibrate hua. Papa ka call.

Usne call ignore kiya. Phir doosra vibration. Third time pe woh washroom mein jaake call pick karne wali thi, but tabhi screen pe ek unfamiliar number flash hua—Delhi code. Meera ka heart ek second ke liye literally drop hua. Call cut hua. Fir message aaya: “Meera, main Rajesh. Bengaluru aa gaya hoon. Office ke paas hoon. Milna hai.”

Meera ne message padhte hi bas freeze kar diya. Aisa laga kisi ne uske carefully built fake stability ke cardboard walls pe ekdum se kick maar di ho. “Papa Bengaluru mein? Abhi? Kyun? Kaise?” Usne turant reply type kiya: “Aapne bataya kyun nahi?” Phir delete. “Papa, sab theek hai?” bhi type kiya, phir khud hi cringe feel karke delete. Aakhir mein bas likha: “Main lobby mein aa rahi hoon.”

Papa simple beige shirt mein the, haath mein ek small bag, face pe wohi restrained expression. Na gussa, na drama. Bas ek quiet presence. Meera ne unke paas jaake almost whisper mein kaha, “Aap yahan?” Rajesh ne bas itna bola, “Haan. Tumse milne ka mann tha.” Phir unhone usko dekha, uske face ko, uski eyes ke neeche ki thakan ko, aur bina kuch kahe samajh gaye ki kuch toh gadbad hai.

Usi time office mein aur chaos ho gaya. Client call escalate ho gayi thi aur Nikhil lobby ke side se nikalte hue bol raha tha, “Meera, can you come on this? We need a quick sync.” Rajesh ne woh sab dekh liya. Nikhil ka hurried tone, Meera ka tense face, aur uska woh fake professional smile jo ab almost crack kar rahi thi. Nikhil ne Rajesh ko dekh ke politely nod kiya, “Hi sir.” Phir bina rukhe bol diya, “Meera, please, this is urgent.”

Bas side mein khade ho gaye. Aur unka silence Meera ko aur guilty feel karane laga. Woh floor pe dekhte hue boli, “Aapko aise achanak aane ki kya zarurat thi?” Uski voice mein gussa kam, panic zyada tha. Rajesh ne calmly kaha, “Tumne phone pe hamesha bola sab theek hai. Socha dekh loon.”
