The Story Narrative (Hinglish Prose)

Complete Story

Shaam ka waqt tha. Dining table par ceiling fan ki halki si ghurghurahat chal rahi thi aur kitchen se aati warm yellow light poore scene ko ek aadha-serious, aadha-dramatic family battlefield bana rahi thi. Table par teen cups, thode bikhre hue plates, ek half-eaten snack bowl aur beech mein ek handwritten list padi thi: “Apology Draft for Maa.”

Anita sabse pehle seedhi baithi, jaise meeting ki chair usi ki ho. Bina ne apne baal kaan ke peeche kiye aur list ko aise dekha jaise koi legal document ho. Chhaya already pen ghumate hue restless thi, uski aankhon mein woh energy thi jo har group project mein ek naya chaos laati hai.

Aaj subah ka family function disaster tha. Koi der se pahunchi, koi gift bhool gayi, kisi ne photo mein aankhen band kar li, aur kisi ne relative ke saamne “bas bas, ab bas” bol diya. Result: Maa ka mood off. Ab teenon sisters ne decide kiya tha ki ek single apology message likhenge. Simple. Mature. Unified.

Bas problem yeh thi ki teenon ko “mature” ka matlab alag-alag lag raha tha.

Anita ne pen uthaya. “Theek hai. Seedha, respectful, aur short. ‘Maa, aaj function mein humse galti ho gayi. We are sorry.’”

Bina turant boli, “Too dry. Aise lag raha hai jaise HR email ho. Thoda warmth chahiye. ‘Maa, hum sab se galti ho gayi, aur humein sach mein bura laga.’”

Chhaya ne table par ungli tap ki. “Warmth? Nahi. Drama with dignity. ‘Maa, aaj ke function mein hum emotionally present the, par execution mein gap reh gaya.’”

Anita aur Bina ek saath uski taraf dekhti reh gayi.

“Execution?” Anita ne kaha. “Hum apology likh rahe hain ya annual report?”

Chhaya shrug kar ke boli, “Maturity ka language hota hai.”

Bina ne apna cup ghumaya. “Maturity ka matlab complicated words nahi hote. Maturity ka matlab hota hai pehle apni galti accept karo.”

Chhaya ne instantly bola, “Main accept kar rahi hoon. Bas phrase elegant hona chahiye.”

Anita ne list ke upar likha: “We are sorry.” Phir usne line ke neeche ek chhota sa note add kiya: “No excuses.”

Bina ne woh note dekha aur muskurayi. “Achha, no excuses? To phir sabse pehle ye likho ki late kaun hua tha.”

Anita ne aankh sikodi. “Main late nahi hui thi. Main time pe thi, bas tum dono ready nahi thi.”

Chhaya turant bol padi, “Main ready thi. Main tum dono ka wait kar rahi thi because I was being considerate.”

Bina ne pen uthaya aur line ke end mein likh diya: “We regret the confusion.”

Anita ne pen chheenne ki koshish ki. “Confusion? Confusion se aisa lagta hai jaise accident ho gaya ho. Yeh chaos tha.”

Chhaya ne haath utha kar bola, “Chaos is a strong word. Let’s say ‘slight mismatch in coordination.’”

Bina has padi. “Slight mismatch? Function mein tumne relative ko wrong gift bag de diya tha.”

Chhaya defensive ho gayi. “Mainne de diya tha kyunki bag same tha.”

Anita ne turant bola, “Nahi, bag same nahi tha. Tumne name tag padha hi nahi.”

Chhaya ne chin utha kar kaha, “Mainne padha tha. Bas us waqt light kam thi.”

Bina ne ceiling fan ki taraf dekha. “Light kam thi ya tumhari attention?”

Is par teenon mein woh familiar sibling silence aaya, jo actually silence nahi hota—bas next insult ka pause hota hai.

Phir Anita ne compromise mode mein kaha, “Theek hai. Ek line likhte hain: ‘Maa, aaj hum sab ne milkar function ko thoda zyada memorable bana diya.’”

Chhaya ne immediately smile ki. “Oho, ye toh achha hai. Positive framing.”

Bina ne dry tone mein kaha, “Positive framing mein bhi sach toh rehna chahiye.”

Anita ne line ke aage add kiya: “By mistake.”

Chhaya ne protest kiya, “By mistake? Isse lagta hai hum incompetent hain.”

Bina ne ek aur version likha: “Maa, humne function mein kuch unexpected moments create kiye.”

Anita ne forehead rub kiya. “Unexpected moments? Matlab hum surprise party the?”

Chhaya ne serious face bana kar kaha, “Actually, apology mein thoda grace hona chahiye. Main likhti hoon: ‘Maa, humse aaj kuch galtiyan hui, aur hum unhe sincerely acknowledge karte hain.’”

Bina ne us line ko padhta padhta bola, “Sincerely acknowledge… bahut achha. Lekin tumne ‘humse’ bola hai. Isse sab equal ho gaye. Aur equal hona theek hai, par agar kisi ne zyada kiya ho toh?”

Anita ne instantly bola, “Kisi ne zyada kiya ho toh uska naam mat lo.”

Chhaya ne aankh ghumaayi. “Woh toh obvious hai.”

Bina ne list ke side mein ek naya heading likh diya: “Tone.”

Anita ne poocha, “Ab tone ka kya?”

Bina ne explain kiya, “Tone should sound apologetic, not weak.”

Chhaya ne counter kiya, “And not guilty-looking.”

Anita ne final say jaisa bola, “And definitely not like we’re begging.”

Teenon ne ek dusre ko dekha. Apology ka draft ab ek diplomatic treaty ban chuka tha.

Tab Chhaya ne achanak phone uthaya aur bola, “Ek kaam karte hain. Voice note bana dete hain. Mom ko zyada natural lagega.”

Bina ne haath se mana kiya. “Nahi. Voice note mein tone slip ho jaati hai. Text safer hai.”

Anita ne nod kiya. “Text. Clean. Controlled.”

Chhaya ne last line likhi: “Maa, we’re sorry for the inconvenience and promise to do better next time.”

Bina ne turant add kiya, “If needed, we can also help clean up after the next function.”

Anita ne uske neeche likha, “Without being asked.”

Chhaya ne eyes narrow ki. “Without being asked? Isse lagta hai hum selfless hain.”

Bina ne kaha, “Apology mein selfless dikhna hi toh goal hai.”

Anita ne final draft ko padhte hue head tilt kiya. “Theek hai. Yeh message decent hai. Bas thoda too perfect lag raha hai.”

Chhaya grin kar ke boli, “That’s because I polished it.”

Uske upar neat handwriting mein likha tha: “For girls. Read before sending.”

Bina ne eyebrow raise ki. “Yeh kya hai?”

Chhaya ne paper liya aur unfold kiya. Andar ek aur draft tha—same apology ka first version, lekin handwriting obviously unki mother ki thi. Line simple thi: “Meri teenon betiyon ko kal function mein shayad thoda zyada pressure ho gaya. Main bas chahti hoon ki woh aapas mein ladna kam karein aur ek dusre ko zyada support karein.”

Anita ki aankh phat gayi. “Yeh… Maa ne likha?”

Bina ne paper aur neeche padha. “Aur neeche date bhi hai. Function se pehle ki.”

Chhaya ka muh khula reh gaya. “Toh hum jis apology ko itni seriously rewrite kar rahe the… uska first draft already Maa ne banaya tha?”

Anita ne slowly chair ki back pe lean karte hue kaha, “Aur hum teenon usme apna PR kar rahe the.”

Bina ko hansi aa gayi. “Hum apology nahi, autobiography likh rahe the.”

Chhaya ne paper table par rakha aur dramatic whisper mein boli, “Maa ne toh pehle hi maaf kar diya tha.”

Anita ne final line jaisi awaaz mein kaha, “Aur hum the ki maturity ka competition chala rahe the.”

Teenon phir ek dusre ko dekhkar has padiं—pehle halki, phir full-on helpless laughter. Dining table battlefield se suddenly confession booth ban gaya.

Anita ne apne draft par ek line aur likhi: “Maa, thanks for writing first.”

Bina ne uske neeche add kiya: “We’ll try not to improve your apology again.”

Chhaya ne last flourish diya: “Promise, next time we’ll only fight after reading the note properly.”

Aur is baar, teenon ne message send nahi kiya. Bas us folded paper ko beech mein rakh diya, jaise family ka asli apology hamesha pehle se likha hota hai—sirf padhne ki der hoti hai.
