Set Design & Location Specs

Hospital consultation room 407 should feel sterile, boxed-in, and slightly institutionalized beyond comfort. Use a metal table with a cold reflective surface, two mismatched but functional chairs, a wall clock placed high enough to dominate the frame, and a one-way mirror that reads as a dark void until the reveal. Fluorescent fixtures should be visible or implied, with flat spill that removes warmth from skin tones. Add small practicals only from the screenplay: water glass, pen, tape recorder, hospital file, and ID card. Textures should include brushed metal, matte painted walls, scuffed linoleum, and faint institutional wear on chair edges and table legs. Spatial layers must emphasize containment: foreground table edge, midground characters, background mirror and clock, with the room feeling narrower as the scene progresses.

Lighting Schematics

Tier 1 - Entry: cold fluorescent top light, flat and clinical, with minimal shadow separation to establish institutional realism. Tier 2 - Interrogation escalation: slightly deepen contrast on faces using subtle side fill and negative fill so Kabir’s stress and Rhea’s intensity become more sculpted. Tier 3 - Reveal: maintain the same cold source but allow the room to feel darker around the edges, with the mirror and clock becoming more dominant in the frame. Keep skin tones desaturated and unforgiving throughout.

Sound Design & Foley

Primary sound bed is the wall clock tick, kept slightly too loud to create pressure. Add faint fluorescent hum, soft chair creaks, paper rustle from the file, the water glass set-down, and the tape recorder’s click and pause. Room tone should feel sealed and airless, with very little outside hospital ambience. Kabir’s breathing and hand movement should be audible in close moments, while silence after the recorder stops should land like a physical weight.

Micro-Budget Production Hacks

  • ✓ Keep the entire film in one room with one lighting setup and only small relights for progression.
  • ✓ Use practical fluorescent tubes or LED panels gelled to feel clinical.
  • ✓ The one-way mirror can be simulated with a dark reflective surface and controlled reflections instead of a true two-way system.
  • ✓ Limit props to the exact screenplay items.
  • ✓ Shoot coverage efficiently by grouping all dialogue in master, over-the-shoulder, and close-up passes.
  • ✓ Let performance and sound carry the thriller tension instead of expensive production design.
