INT. MATERNITY CLINIC WAITING AREA - DAY
Pastel walls. Ceiling fan. Bright, unforgiving tube lights. A glowing TOKEN BOARD hums above a row of plastic chairs.
KARAN (29), harried in casual office wear, pen tucked behind ear, stares at a REGISTRATION FORM like it is a bomb.
PRIYA (27), pregnant, in a loose kurta, one hand on her belly, one on her phone, watches him with sharp amusement.
SUNITA (54), overenthusiastic mother-in-law in a bright printed sari, clutching a handbag full of opinions, sits opposite like a judge.
KARAN
(under his breath)
Bas form fill karna hai. Bas.
PRIYA
Itna mushkil lag raha hai toh main likh deti hoon.
SUNITA
Nahi, nahi. Papa ko responsibility leni chahiye.
Karan forces a smile, takes the pen from behind his ear, and starts writing.

KARAN
Baby Sharma?
PRIYA
Sharma? Itna plain? Kuch toh personality do.
SUNITA

PRIYA

Karan looks up, trapped.
KARAN

PRIYA

KARAN

PRIYA

SUNITA

PRIYA

Sunita huffs.
SUNITA

Karan glances at the TOKEN BOARD.
KARAN
Token 47 aaya toh main submit karke nikal jaaunga.
SUNITA

KARAN
Nahi. Matlab... emotional bhaag.
Priya snorts despite herself.
PRIYA

Karan resumes writing.
KARAN

PRIYA

SUNITA

KARAN

Both women stare at him.
PRIYA

SUNITA

KARAN

NURSE (O.S.)

Karan freezes.
Priya looks up from her phone.
Sunita straightens like a thundercloud.
Karan snatches the form.
INSERT - FORM
In the father’s name field: SUSHMA VERMA.
Karan’s face collapses.
KARAN
Nahi...
PRIYA
Kya nahi?
KARAN
Maine... sign karte waqt...
He points at the form, mortified.
KARAN (CONT'D)
Yeh... yeh meri mom ka maiden name hai.
Silence.
Priya stares. Then bursts out laughing.
Sunita blinks, then tries to stay stern. Fails.
PRIYA
Toh baby ka surname decide ho gaya.
Ab father ka naam bhi mummy ji ka hi rakh dete hain?
Sunita laughs, scandalized.
SUNITA
Maine kaha tha, pen dhyaan se pakdo!
KARAN
Main... bas family values follow kar raha tha.
Priya laughs harder, holding her belly.
The TOKEN BOARD BEEPS.
NURSE (O.S.)

Karan looks at the form, then at both women.
KARAN

Ab main dobara bhar deta hoon.
PRIYA
Haan. Aur is baar apna naam bhi yaad rakhna.
Sunita adjusts her sari, victorious.
SUNITA
Aur baby ka naam Veer hi rahega.
Priya and Karan say in unison:

They all look at each other.
Then, together, they stand and move toward the counter.
